Prof. Dan Fellner

Dan Fellner has more than 25 years of experience in corporate public relations, television news and university teaching in the United States and Eastern Europe. He is a two-time Fulbright Scholar and two-time Fulbright Senior Specialist. He began his career as a television news reporter and presenter for stations in four different American cities. He later spent 10 years in corporate public relations with the Dow Chemical Company, the second-largest chemical company in the world. At Dow, he held a wide variety of positions, including manager of news media relations. He was the company’s primary media focal point on such crisis issues as silicone gel breast implant litigation, downsizing and environmental issues. He also led the company’s communications activities related to a major acquisition in South Africa, annual stockholder meetings and the 1992 Earth Summit in Brazil.

In 1998 Fellner formed a public relations consulting firm, which provides writing and media training for major corporate clients such as Nike and Dow. In 1998 he also joined Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication as a faculty associate. He teaches courses in public relations, journalism news writing and international mass communications and is also a faculty affiliate with the university’s Russian and East European Studies Center. In 2001 Fellner was named a Fulbright Scholar and taught courses in journalism and public relations at universities in Riga, Latvia during the 2001-2002 academic year. He also conducted seminars for broadcast journalists and PR professionals throughout the country. In 2004, as a Fulbright Senior Specialist, Fellner taught an intensive course in public relations to master’s degree students at Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas, Lithuania. The following year he returned to Eastern Europe as a Fulbright Senior Specialist and taught a course in public relations at Daugavpils University in Daugavpils, Latvia. Fellner was named a Fulbright Scholar again in 2006-07 and taught courses in journalism and public relations at Moldova State University. In addition to his teaching responsibilities and public relations consulting, Fellner is a freelance travel writer for American newspapers and magazines. He has had articles published on such diverse destinations as New Zealand, Egypt, Alaska and Ukraine.
