Dr. Peter Rutland

Professor of Government, Wesleyan University, USA

Dr. Peter Rutland is currently a Professor of Government at Wesleyan University where he taught since 1989. Before that he taught at the University of Texas at Austin, and York and London Universities in the UK. He has a BA from Oxford and a PhD from York. He has been a visiting professor at the European University in St. Petersburg. From 1995-97 he was on leave from Wesleyan and served as assistant director of the research institute attached to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty in Prague. He continued to dabble in journalism, writing for Transitions Online (Prague) and editing the Jamestown Foundation's Russia and Eurasia Review. In 2003-04 he was a visiting Fulbright professor at Sophia University and Kyoritsu Women's University in Tokyo, teaching courses on US foreign policy.

Professor Rutland works on the politics of economic policy in the former Soviet Union and East Europe. He has done fieldwork in Russia, Czechoslovakia and Uzbekistan. In 2002-03 he made field trips to study nationalist politics in Azerbaijan, Abkhazia and Mary-El.USA

He taught at the First Fulbright International Summer Institute in Pamporovo, Bulgaria in 2002.
